THE BIBLE IS TRUTH

The Bible is true. That means it is in accordance with the facts. The Bible is known for its truthfulness, accuracy and reliability. It is free of any falsehood.

The Bible is uniquely true:

The Bible being God’s Word is truth. It is rightfully self authenticating. Here are some select Bible verses which substantiate this fact. Even the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Truth Himself says, God’s Word is truth.

Psalm 119:160 “The sum of Your word is truth.”
John 8:31, 32 “Jesus was saying to those Jews who have believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 17:17 “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.”
Ephesians 1:13 “In Him, you also after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation…”
James 1:18 “In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth….”

The Bible is God’s revelation and is inspired by Him:

2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is inspired of God….” This is called the plenary inspiration, which means both the Old and New Testament are inspired of God. Inspired here means, the whole Bible is God breathed. 2 Peter 1:20, 21 “But know first of all that no prophecy of Scripture is of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” This speaks of the Bible as God’s REVELATION.

The Bible is truth because it is from God. It bears His nature since He is the source. God is the author and He used human authors. Chosen men wrote the Scriptures under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. INSPIRATION is the Holy Spirit super naturally enabling the human authors to write without any error, God’s full and final message, with all relevant details, like history and geography.

In Psalm 19, the Psalmist talks about the Word of God being perfect, true, right, pure and righteous. So, the whole Bible testifies about its own veracity and integrity.

The Bible is inerrant and infallible:

The Bible is perfect because the author is God Himself. His holiness and perfection are reflected in His revelation.  The Bible being perfect means it is inerrant and infallible. INERRANCY is being free from all error. INFALLIBILITY is being totally dependable. The Bible has no mistakes and it is incapable of misguiding anyone.

The Bible is absolute, unchanging truth:

God says in Revelation 22:18, 19, “I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.” He has fully revealed in the Bible all that He wants us to know. In Deuteronomy 29:29 God tells us that secret things belong to Him. He makes no effort to satisfy our curiosities or answer all our questions. The Bible can not be improved. It is absolute truth and we are not to meddle with its content.

Being God’s final revelation, the Bible will never change but will remain forever. The Bible as timeless truth is relevant and speaks to people of all times.

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of the Lord stands forever.”
1 Peter 1:25 “But the word of the Lord endures forever and this is the word which was preached to you.”

The Bible has stood the test of time. Many have tried to disprove it, oppose it and even destroy it. Truth remains and will prevail forever. Interestingly, over the years, archaeological findings continue to verify and support the accuracy of details in the Bible. The Biblical accounts are true to history and geography. The Bible has not changed as it can not and need not. But the truth of God’s word has changed countless lives and societies.

APPLICATION:

In the light of the fact that the Bible is God’s full and final revelation, we have to be careful of those who claim to have had extra biblical revelation. We should rather give our fullest attention to what the Bible has to say. God surely has spoken in His Word, which is truth. What has been said here leads us to the authority of the Bible. We will also see the way God has meant for His Word to minister to us for our spiritual well being.
